Winter update 2009 Print E-mail
Saturday, 05 December 2009 17:12

Dear all MINI Club of Calgary members,

Winter has arrived in Calgary at full force it seems, and we are getting closer and closer to Christmas. It has been an interesting year, especially for our fine club. We had our largest event ever, with 92 cars present to celebrate the 50th Anniversary of MINI, in support of the YWCA. As we enter the Christmas season, the MINI Club of Calgary is once again supporting the YWCA with our "Stuff a MINI Campaign"

Stuff a MINI 2009

On November 21st, we kicked off the Stuff a MINI drive at Crowfoot MINI. The goal - to stuff as many MINIs as we can in support of those in need at the YWCA. This year we are looking for gifts that nourish, suitable for children aged 0 - 14. For a list of suitable gifts, please visit:
Stuff a MINI Gifts
On December 19, the club will be gathering at MINI Crowfoot once again to deliver the toys to the YWCA. Please come out and join us.

MINI Club of Calgary 2010 Calendars

The Calendars are ready! These 13 month calendars are for sale for only $15, with all proceeds going to support club activities. These are great stocking stuffers, and we will have them at the Stuff a MINI Drive on Dec 19 as well.
We also have lots of other Club Gear that would make great stocking stuffers, such as Grill badges, flags, T-Shirts, Car Decals, etc

Next Meeting

Our next club meeting will be January 20th. We are still looking for new meeting spots, so if you have ideas, post them on our forum.

Group buys

As always, we are trying to leverage the great size of our club to help save some money for cool MINI stuff. There are a few group buys being started, and can be seen on our website. If you are interested in one of them, go ahead and sign up. They will be ending soon, in order to try and get stuff before Christmas. There will be more though, and if you are interested in something, post it up, as I'm sure others will be too.
Some of the items for group buy include:
- Classic MINI 2GB USB flash drives.
- FES-Auto window and cabrio auto-open circuits (or whatever else they have).
- Wet-Okole Car seat covers.

MINI Club Newsletter

In the new year we will be starting a newsletter, and featuring some club members, and club happenings. We are always open to individuals who want to help out. Look for it in the new year!

Well that is it for the Winter update. We hope you are staying safe in snow, and have a wonderful Holiday season!
Regards,
MINI Club of Calgary.

Fall is Here!

Today marks the first day of Fall for 2009.  It has been a fantastic summer for the MINI Club of Calgary, and we hope all our members have enjoyed the events put on by the club.  This club is volunteer run, and as such it is what we make of it, and we have done a bunch.  The Drumheller run was again a great success, with many different sights to see, with a ride on a ferry and everything!

YWCA - 2009 Walk-a-Mile Campaign

4 members of the MINI Club of Calgary participated in the YWCA's Walk-a-Mile in Her Shoes fundraiser.  It was a huge success, as we raised $5,783 towards helping those who suffer with domestic violence.  A special thanks to all those who donated to support the cause.  There is still time to donate if you like at www.walkamile.ca.

50th Anniversary

As you are aware, the club recently celebrated the 50th Anniversary of MINI, with 92 participants creating the MINI emblem, with aerial photos for sale in support of the club's charity - the YWCA.  On Friday, Sept 25, the club will be presenting the YWCA with a cheque for $1100.  Thanks again goes out to all those who purchased photos for this great charity.

WIN a $50 MINI Crowfoot Gift Certificate

In order to help us determine the direction of the club, what we should be doing, and what we shouldn't be doing, we have created a Survey to gather some feedback.  Log in and fill it out.

MINI Club of Calgary 2009 Survey.

All those who fill it out will be entered for the draw, to be held at the October 14th club meeting.  Have your entries in by Oct 13th to be eligible.

October Club Meeting - Oct 14, 2009.

The next club meeting will be Wednesday, Oct 14, 2009.  We are trying to find a quieter location for it, as we need to determine what runs and events we will be having in 2010.  This is so we can put them in the 2010 Calendar.  Also, please remember to submit your pictures for the calendar.  The calendars are fantastic, and one of the clubs major fund raisers for the year.

The Great Pumpkin Run 2009

Once again, we will be hosting a run to Innisfail to visit the Jungle Farm.  Stay tuned for more info.  There are lots of activities there, and great fun for all.

Hello Everyone

This year the MINI Club of Calgary, is trying to show that we may drive small cars, however we have large hearts.

In an endeavor to give back to the community four members of the club are participating in the YWCA's "Walk A Mile in Her Shoes", whereby the funds raised will benefit the Sheriff King Home (The emergency shelter for women and children who are fleeing from domestic violence).

The event takes place on Monday Sept. 21 at noon at Olympic Plaza, and our team is called "MINI Guys, Taking MINI Steps".  As the event is to raise funds it is also to generate awareness of this serious issue, and therefore the all male teams will be doing the walk in "High Heels".

We would truly appreciate your financial support in the way of a donation to our team, as the top five teams will be specially recognized at the event.  We are currently in sixth position.

To donate, please go to www.walkamile.ca

Then click on "Calgary" at the bottom left corner, you will be directed to the home page where there is a tab callled "Walkers" under this heading is a sub heading "Support a Walker", enter "MINI Guys, Taking MINI Steps" and this will direct you to our team website.  From here you can choose one of the four names and place your donation.  A tax receipt will be issued to all donations over $20.

Ben (bentycc)

David (minidd)

Deadline for donations is Sunday Sept 20 at midnight, so that the donation will count towards our team total.

Thank you in advance.
