MINI 2nd millionth MINI built

Two-millionth MINI built at Oxford plant
Prime Minister Cameron: MINI is a great success story

Oxford//Munich. Today, ten years after the start of MINI production in Oxford, British Prime Minister David Cameron drove the two-millionth MINI out of the plant. The car is a MINI Convertible with special paintwork and extras.

Frank-Peter Arndt, member of the Board of Management of BMW AG, responsible for Production, said in Oxford: "Production of the two millionth MINI comes on the back of strong demand worldwide. Our recent announcement of an additional £500 million investment in our UK MINI production facilities demonstrates the important role that Oxford plays in our global production network. The most essential factors in the success of MINI are the skills, passion and dedication of our associates."

On the occasion of the British Prime Minister's visit to Plant Oxford, Arndt outlined the company's plans for its UK operations. The majority of the investment will be used for new production facilities for the next-generation MINI, and will play an important part in securing the long-term future of Plant Oxford and safeguarding jobs at the pressings plant in Swindon and the company's engine plant in Hams Hall near Birmingham. This takes the BMW Group's investment across all its UK operations to more than 1.5 billion pounds since 2000.

The MINI Coupe

MINI has unveiled the MINI coupe in its full glory, with all the camo off.  It is the first 2 seater MINI, and shares the same platform has the regular Hatch.  It is slightly heavier than the hatch due to extra bracing and the new, first ever, motorized wing.  It is also the fastest accelerating, and highest top speed production MINI to date.  Here is the official press release, and some photos after the break!

The MINI Coupé.

At a glance.

  • MINI gives the small car segment another fascinating injection of variety with the presentation of the first two-seater in the brand’s current model range. The MINI Coupé represents the faithful transposition of the brand’s sporting DNA into a cutting-edge vehicle concept with a new interpretation of the super-compact sports car class; unrivalled handling agility and the best performance figures in the model portfolio.

A MINI Vacation in Vegas Wrap-up

AMVIV 8 Wrap-upVegas

A MINI Vacation 8 has come and gone, and after almost 6000km of driving, we completed the round trip.  I must say, it was a great adventure, and we saw some great places, and had a great time with our club friends, and some new ones we met in Vegas.  It was certainly a trip to remember, and thankfully, even with all the miles we put on our MINIs, there were no mishaps or unwanted driving excitement (except for the snow storm on the way down).  However, I must say, there was plenty of wanted driving excitement!  A total of 8 MINIs from the MINI Club of Calgary made the trek down, and here is a summary of our activities and venture (at least from my point of view).

MINI WRC Team Released

MINI has finally taken the wraps off the official WRC car.  We think it looks fantastic, and hope some of that is going to be available to everyone.

Official Release: The return of MINI to one of the biggest stages in motorsport is approaching ever closer. On Monday, the MINI WRC Team was officially presented to the public at the Team Launch, which took place at the MINI Plant in Oxford (GB). This season, the team will contest six rounds of the FIA World Rally Championship (WRC) with the MINI John Cooper Works WRC. The car will be tested against its rivals for the first time at the Rally d’Italia Sardegna from 5th to 8th May 2011. The goal in the debut season is to gain valuable experience to be perfectly prepared to take on the entire 2012 World Rally Championship.
